7-11 Doesn't Want to be Opportunisitc, Preceeds to Beat Slurpee Summit Idea to Pulp

7-11 freaks out at the prospect of a Slurpee Summit. USA Today reports that the company got really excited when President Obama suggested the possibility of a "Slurpee summit" with the new Republican leadership. They've contacted the White House and offered to cater the summit. A new ad campaign will play off the idea of Slurpees bringing people together. But more importantly, they're re-evaluating their branding so that it actually, really brings people together. "This is a rare opportunity for a brand," says Margaret Chabris, a spokeswoman for 7-Eleven. "We don't want to be opportunistic, but nothing has ever been this big for Slurpee."

There's gold in them salmon spawning ground ... and jewelers don't want it. Slashfood.com takes a look at the controversy at Bristol Bay, Alaska, one of the biggest salmon spawning grounds in the world. It provides one-third of the world's salmon. But mining companies want the gold in the area and have been fighting to perform open-pit mining. Fifty jewelers, including Tiffany & Co., recently said they will not purchase gold mined from the Bristol Bay area.
