Farmhaus now serves tacos!
Gut Check loves tacos. Gut Check loves Farmhaus. We named the restaurant, owned by chef Kevin Willmann, "Best New Restaurant" of 2010. So it was with some excitement that we learned that, beginning today, the restaurant's $10 "Blue Plate Special" every Tuesday will be tacos.

Farmhaus manager Eric Scholle emailed late last night -- restaurant time, you know -- with the details: Each plate includes a chorizo, a carnitas and a mixed vegetable taco along with rice and beans, salad and iced tea. All for $10. (Vegetarians can opt for three vegetable tacos. Otherwise, no taco mix-and-match.)

Scholle explains, "The driving force behind this project is Antonio Pacheco, our daytime kitchen manager. Antonio is a recent Washington University architecture school graduate, but he also grew up around his parents Mexican restaurant in Los Angeles.

"We are using some of his mom's recipes for the tacos and we are pressing the tortillas in house with a tortilla press that was handmade by Adam Tilford of Milagro and Tortillaria."

Fans of Farmhaus' "Blue Plate Specials" know the lunch can be quite popular, so the tacos will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
