School Nutrition Bill Gets Post-Election Boost
In higher education, IHOP's looking to take care of student hunger. Or at least sell a lot of sausage and coffee to hungover kids on their way to class. The Nation's Restaurant News reports that the International House of Pancakes plans to expand its coupling with food service behemoth Aramark to create five IHOP U locations on college campuses. The prototype's open at the University of Tennessee - Knoxville campus.
They probably won't be serving Marilyn Monroe's three-meat, three-nut poultry stuffing. Her recipe, written on a sheet of notepaper from an insurance company, is featured in Fragments, a new book of Monroe memorabilia. The New York Times tinkered with her complex recipe with tasty results.
Out of the eleven ingredients, Monroe's stuffing didn't contain mystery lizards. CNN reports that a new species of lizard has been discovered in Vietnam. Scientists might not have known about the Leiolepis ngovantrii, but cooks and diners knew; it's been served in small restaurants in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province for years. A scientist happened to notice that the lizards in a restaurant's tank looked oddly similar, and were all female. Bring in the herpetologist, accidentally lose the known population to a drunk cook frying the specimens, scrounge the other nearby restaurants for more lizards, and next thing you know, a species is documented. Unbelievable? The lizards are all clones of their mother.
