Thanksgiving Pro Tip: Get Sexy to Get Safe

The Red Cross is urging home cooks to wear tight clothes in the kitchen to prevent another hot thing: kitchen fires.
More than 4,000 fires occur on Thanksgiving Day each year, double the amount of blazes on an ordinary day. "Wear tighter fitting clothing with shorter sleeves when cooking," the Red Cross recommends. To avoid, you know, setting yourself on fire.
To which Gut Check says: In that outfit you're on fire already!

More tips, which we here at Gut Check would think of as common sense, but, judging by the thousands of kitchen fires each year, are not:
- Keep potholders and wrappers away from heat sources.
- Turn off stoves, ovens and ranges when you're not using them.
- Set a timer to make sure you remember the massive hunk of poultry in your hot oven.
- Turn pot handles inward.
- Blow out all candles after guests leave.
Our favorite: "Remember to save the butter for the rolls and not a burn." Instead, run cold tapwater over superficial burns.
Oh, and think twice before deep frying a turkey.
