L.A. Times Restaurant Critic Outed. Literally.

Veteran restaurant critic S. Irene Virbila had an encounter that won't lead to a sparkling review. Tuesday night, while dining at Red Medicine in Beverly Hills, a managing partner took her photo and kicked her out. The manager, Noah Ellis, posted the photo on the restaurant's website with the message that Virbila isn't welcome at Red Medicine. The Los Angeles Times gives their side of the feud.

In less-jerky restaurant news, the Boston Globe features chef Josh Birdsall, who provides restaurant-quality free lunches to a day shelter for women and their children. Birdsall works with a rotating staff of volunteer cooks, who are often women who utilize the shelter. One volunteer/patron said, "I worked at Legal Sea Foods for 15 years, and I've learned more from him in three months than I ever did there. This is restaurant-quality food, not shelter-quality food.''

But is he Olympic-quality? According to a press release, T.G.I. Friday's is petitioning the International Olympic Committee to recognize bartending as an Olympic sport. Because the Olympic Village needs more flair.

If bartending becomes an Olympic sport, will iPads be disqualified? The gadgets are making work much easier for bar and restaurant folk, according to Nation's Restaurant News.
