Man Watching Julie & Julia Every Day for a Year, Blogging the Experience

This has been making the rounds over the past few days -- I saw it on Eater this morning -- but Gut Check is never one to pass up a fun story, especially when it allows us to question another human being's life choices.

Meet Lawrence Dai, a student at Northwestern University who has decided to watch last year's inescapable circle jerk of foodie self-congratulation film Julie & Julia every single day for a year, and blog about the experience at the Lawrence/Julie & Julia Project.

This, of course, is a riff on Julie Powell's the Julie/Julia Project, in which she cooked her way through Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking and blogged about it every day for a year, which led to a book deal, which led to the movie Julie & Julia, which led to the Lawrence OH GOD MAKE IT STOP.

Sorry.

At any rate, as of this writing, Dai is on his eighth viewing and is already overanalyzing the necessity and casting of bit-part characters, interpreting the title card in the light of Native American history and counting how many times characters utter the words "boning ducks" (5). It's definitely worth a quick read. I, for one, will be checking back to see how long he lasts.
