Restaurant Tidbits from (South) South Grand

The smiling fish isn't smiling now.
​Every now and then, a reader asks if there are any updates on the fate of South Grand Gyro Express, which closed in June of last year. (Its gyro is #97 on my list of 100 Favorite St. Louis Dishes.) I happened to be in the neighborhood yesterday, and it looks as if nothing has changed since the last time I checked, which was August of last year. As then, the sign remains up, and there is furniture in the small dining room, but there are no signs of life.

While on my way to South Grand Gyro Express, I passed My Bread & Butter at South Grand Boulevard and Keokuk Avenue, the opening of which I reported in August. Well, it seems My Bread & Butter wasn't long for this world. The restaurant is closed, with the front door bolted shut.
