17th Street Bar and Grill Named 85th Best Restaurant in the Nation
More accolades for pit master Mike Mills and his 17th Street Bar and Grill. His original joint in Murphysboro, Illinois (two hours southeast of St. Louis), has been named the 85th-best restaurant in the U.S. on The Daily Meal's 101 Best Restaurants list. 17th Street tied with Hungry Mother, an upscale Southern restaurant in Boston.

Daily Meal editors compiled a list of 150 worthy restaurants. The 101 winners were selected by a panel of food and lifestyle journalists.
Arthur Bryant's in Kansas City was the highest-ranking barbecue restaurant on the list, checking in at number 18. Thomas Keller's French Laundry topped the list overall.
17th Street has several outposts in southern Illinois, including one in O'Fallon.
Mills' barbecue has garnered quite the boodle of awards. Bon Appétit named 17th Street's the best ribs in the country. RFT's made the joint "Best Barbecue" in St. Louis in 2007. For thirteen years it held the record for the most Grand World Champion wins at Memphis in May, with three wins and a tie.
