January 2011 Openings and Closings

Marjorie Poore Productions
Hubert Keller isn't smiling about Sleek's closing.
Sadly, the first month of the new year saw a spate of high-profile closings: Sleek, the Lumière Place steakhouse from celebrity chef Hubert Keller; Lafayette Square Mexican restaurant Arcelia's, after 20 years; and Pratzel's Bakery, after nearly 100 years.

Here's hoping the rest of the year brings happier news.

The full list of openings and closings is after the jump. As always, please let us know in the comments if we missed a spot.

If you still haven't gotten caught up with all of last year's comings and going, check out our omnibus 2010 openings and closings post.

Hey did you hear about some parking controversy with the Stella Blues people? Amsterdam tavern was not happy with them, to say the least! Amsterdam says SB was towing people from a car wash nearby. SB says they don't own the car wash, so it wasn't their fault. Amsterdam says the same people who own SB own the car wash . . . check out the controversy on FB.

Anyone been to the reopened Stella Blues? I never got around to going to the old one, but always wanted to, and was quite surprised to drive past and see it open and full of people the other night.
