[UPDATED] Denny's Wants to Kill You, Part 3: Free Trip to Baconfest 2011!

Gut Check was contacted yesterday by Gotham, Inc., the communications company that represents Denny's. Evidently the employee who issued the original quote about the success of Denny's Baconalia wasn't qualified to comment. The company has asket to retract her comments and replace them with those from a Denny's spokesperson.

First the Fried Cheese Melt. Then the Bacon Maple Sundae. When will it end, Denny's?

Not anytime soon, apparently.

Today Gut Check received a press release from Denny's with this ominous opening:

Do you or someone you love have an infatuation with Bacon?

Sure! We all love bacon! Do you have some in your van with the blacked-out windows, Mister?

Okay, it's not that sinister. It's a sweepstakes. Denny's wants to send a bacon lover to the sold-out Baconfest 2011 in Chicago on April 9.

Bacon obsessives can enter the sweepstakes through Denny's Facebook page until midnight on April 4. The winner gets airfare, accommodations, and Baconfest VIP access for two. Five runner-ups will get $100 Denny's gift cards. Which is all well and good, but it's nothing compared to hanging out with these bacon badasses:

If you win the trip to Baconfest, please do not eat bacon dispensed by CTA card machines.

Denny's spokeswoman Andrea Wagner John Dillon, vice president of marketing and product development at Denny's, says that Baconalia has been well-received so far:

People that enjoy it, they really enjoy it. Baconalia has had a very strong reaction so far, especially in social media. There will always be people who are hesitant to try the menu, but the community has spoken and there's a very positive response, especially toward the maple bacon sundae, people are coming back for thirds.
