As you might recall, Marquard placed sixth in 2009 and 2010 at the United States Barista Championships. He has served as the company's education and customer-service leader.
The Good Pie's owner, Michael Randolph, announced last month that he'll be opening Half & Half, a breakfast, lunch and coffee restaurant, in Clayton. His wife Elizabeth said today that they're hoping to be open by the end of April. They're excited about having Marquard aboard.
"He's just a great guy," she said, elaborating that at Half & Half he'll have the opportunity to run the front of the house while still getting to spend some time behind the espresso machine if he's so inclined.
Marquard's move to Half & Half seems mutually beneficial. Randolph emphasized that the Good Pie and Half & Half will continue to work directly with Kaldi's as their coffee supplier.
