New Tumblr Site Teases Yelp "Elite"

Categories: Media
The Yelp "Elite" are supposedly the best of the best users of the user-review website. As a new Tumblr site called, simply, The Yelp Elite points out, it is sometimes difficult to tell what makes the "Elite" elite.

Here is one of the example comments from actual Yelp reviews posted on the site:

To be fair, not all of the comments on The Yelp Elite are terrible. After the jump, a comment that both the site and I myself think is terrific.

They definitely take down uber-negative comments. A buddy of mine looking for a bit of vengeance on a former employer posted that the restaurant had bed bugs and the post was removed shortly thereafter. Justice was done (I guess) but they definitely are able to remove unfavorable remarks.

Why would a food critic hate on Yelp? Oh, yeah, reduced barriers to entry to their "field." Yawn.

Well, that and the rumor that it's set up such that restaurant owners can pay off Yelp to hide negative reviews in the section at the bottom behind a captcha, and other related shenanigans. Plus the tendency of the occasional user to use Yelp to air hissy fits in public about one-time minor screwups.

Yeah you're right. Food critics never accept payola or free meals in exchange for favorable reviews, or spout off based on one-time experiences. Get real.

Okay then, Yelp and its users (like me) are completely blameless, and there is nothing at all wrong with this, reposted at the above Tumblr:
