Quincy Street Bistro was gut-renovated inside and out.
Quincy Street Bistro (6931 Gravois Avenue; 314-353-1588) was crazy busy on Monday night, owing to the storms that wiped out power to many in the south St. Louis neighborhood of Princeton Heights. Large groups packed the place early in the evening, so much so that sitting in the bar area was the path of least resistance for dinner.

Three flat screens hang above the bar, one showing photos of the extensive gut-renovation of the bar that existed in the space before, Jimmy's, and the four apartments that once made up the second floor, which is now a huge dining room.

The menu is extensive: a large selection of burgers, hot and cold sandwiches (including an increasingly rare braunschweiger sighting!) and pizzas; also pastas and seafood and vegetarian options. Most entrées are priced between $9 and $12, and most come with at least one side.

Appetizers ($4-$6) run the bar-fare gamut, though flash-fried spinach stood out so we ordered it. Served with sliced lemon alongside, it was crisp and tasty, flavored with a salty Parmesan-esque cheese, but kinda greasy.

Flash-fried spinach.
An entrée of pork chops with sautéed apples yielded a pair of boneless, double-cut chops and apples that had been caramelized with butter, along with onion rings and a salad of iceberg lettuce. Meat loaf with mashed potatoes followed the pork chops' comfort-food lead, smothered in brown gravy and accompanied by steamed green beans.

There seems to be nothing pretentious about this place -- potentially a great match for the neighborhood that surrounds it.
