Brandt's Café Announces Closure [Updated]

• How bad does a bar have to be to go out of business when it's stationed across from the most foot-trafficked bar on the most foot-trafficked street in the city? It has to be Brandt's-level bad. Razing the building and salting the ground would be an upgrade. Take a hike, Adam, and stop pointing fingers everywhere else except up your own nose.  Here's to hoping that something worthwhile takes its spot on the Loop.

• As someone that used to hang out on the loop several years ago and was just back there this weekend for the first time in a while, I told my friend that the loop keeps getting better and better.  Then I read this today.  Sorry Brandts, I think it was your business that was declining, not the loop.

• Sorry, not buying the "declining steeply over the past two years..." line. As a within-walking-distance resident for nearly 20 years, I've been to been Brandt's multiple times over the last five years, mostly because I was stupid enough to want to give them another chance. Second, I couldn't believe that any restaurant could be that consistently bad and stay in business - and so counted the first few poor experiences as flukes. After a string of bad experiences, I finally gave up and when friends suggested it as a get-together place, strongly recommended otherwise. Brandt's now-former owner shouldn't be blaming his stunning incompetence and complete inability to manage a business on The Loop. I wanted to be a regular; you guys blew it time after time after time.  Good riddance - perhaps the space will end up with someone who actually knows how to manage (and appreciate) staff, inventory and customers. p.s. to the waitstaff: we always gave you guys 25% plus no matter what happened - you deserved better operations management. Hope you find good places to land...

• Good riddance.  This place is and was awful.  Horrible, overpriced food, rude waitstaff, terrible decor.  The only sad part is that this property will probably just become a(nother) Qdoba, or (horror of horrors) a(nother) NOODLES AND COMPANY!!!

• Hilarious that they blame the Loop's decline for their closure.  How about your terrible food and even worse service?  I'm glad the space is open for a place that takes things seriously.

• Huh?  The Business Journal reported that he was trying to sell, not the RFT.
