RFT Staffer Conquers Pearl Cafe Spice Challenge
Gut Check International HQ sacrificed another RFT employee to the Pearl Cafe (8416 North Lindbergh Boulevard, Florissant; 314-831-3701) spice challenge on Saturday.

Mark Madonna, a senior classified account executive, stopped in for some green beans and chicken that tasted like they'd been cooked in a volcano.
Despite a seared tongue and numb mouth, Madonna fared better than the intern Gut Check sent in to the belly of the beast for the challenge last week: He finished his Level 25 dish in just 25 minutes, leaving 20 to spare.
Pearl Cafe's challenge consists of four levels -- 25, 50, 75 and 100 -- of increasing spice. Contestants have 45 minutes to finish a dish at each level.
This isn't Madonna's first rodeo, though. He took Buffalo Wild Wings' spice challenge last year and ate twelve of B-Dubs' spiciest wings in fifteen minutes -- but he swears Pearl Cafe's food was the hottest he's ever tasted.
On Friday Madonna will move on to the Market Pub House (6655 Delmar Boulevard, University City; 314-727-8880) and its spice challenge, in which he'll attempt to wolf down ten ghost-pepper wings in ten minutes without the aid of a beverage.
