Tidbits from Smashburger, Max & Erma's

As Gut Check noted a few weeks ago, Smashburger will open its first St. Louis-area location tomorrow, July 20, at 1981 Zumbehl Road in St. Charles. The "better burger" joint will be open 10 a.m.-10 p.m. daily. In addition to its standard menu of burgers, this Smashburger will include a St. Louis-themed burger and hot dog, both served with Provel cheese.

Meanwhile, George Mahe of St. Louis Magazine reports that the Columbus, Ohio-based chain Max & Erma's will take over the spaces vacated by Hanley's Grille & Tap at West County Center in Des Peres and St. Clair Square in Fairview Heights, Illinois. Max & Erma's has locations in St. Peters and Lake St. Louis; a downtown location closed last year.

We're hitting up SmashBurger around 11:30, I hope it's worth it

Went and it was good - had a classic smash burger, smash fries (rosemary, olive oil, garlic) and took a Gooey butter Cake shake with me to go.

Burger was really good - the smash sauce tastes like it's tellow mustard based, which I normally don't like, but it was very good.

The fries were ok - needed less rosemary and more garlic IMO.

The gooey butter cake shake - very good, but it's just too sweet to drink the whole thing. They did give out samples of the chocolate shakes, and those were awesome.

as someone who's had Max & Erma's for 25 years, trust me STL, they are highly overrated. i'm surprised they're adding another restaurant. good cookies though. heavy on the salt, but good
