Flying Saucer Remodel Unveiled, Tenant(s) Still a Mystery

del-taco.jpg
Developer Rick Yackey yesterday unveiled an architect's rendering of a remodel of the Flying Saucer, the former Del Taco and Phillips 66 building at 212 South Grand Boulevard. The design by St. Louis firm Klitzing Welsch Associates features a new brick and glass facade but retains the basic design of the original.

As for the tenant or tenants that will occupy this building, Yackey remained coy. My colleague Albert Samaha attended the event and filed this report for Daily RFT:

[Yackey] added that he remained in talks with two potential tenants -- "national retailers."

While Yackey wouldn't go into specifics, he did drop hints as to what might be in store. He mentioned that it would be a place where people could kick back and drink coffee and that there would be outdoor seating -- suggesting that the Saucer could become home to an eatery or cafe of some kind.

One of the rumored possible tenants for the Flying Saucer has been Pi Pizzeria. Owner Chris Sommers confirms that he commissioned SPACE Architect to draft a rendering of a concept for the space, but with Yackey's apparent commitment to retain ownership of the building and lease it to national retailers, Sommers tells Gut Check that he appears to be out of the running.
