Listeria and Metal Lead to Lettuce and Velveeta Recalls

The cantaloupe-based listeria outbreak continues; a Louisiana woman's weekend death is linked to the outbreak. But now there are growing concerns with romaine lettuce.
True Leaf Farms of Salinas, California, initially recalled 90 cartons of chopped and bagged romaine lettuce shipped to an Oregon food service distribution center. They've since expanded the recall to 2,500 cartons that were shipped to nineteen states, including Missouri and Illinois. The lettuce was sold to restaurants and cafeterias. No illnesses have been reported. The recall's based on listeria found in a random check performed by federal officials.

More specifically, pieces of wire bristle have been found in Velveeta Shells and Cheese in Microwavable Cups, leading Kraft to voluntarily recall 137,000 cases. No injuries or customer complaints have been reported.
