Ten Best Food Events This Weekend: January 13-January 15

​The post-New Year's lull has finally subsided. Get out and enjoy some winter-worthy events to either embrace the snow or warm up that cold nose. Take for instance, the Loop Ice Carnival featuring everything from ice carving and thousands of chocolate coins in ice cubes as an example of the former. For the latter, grab some coffee and beignets for breakfast a King Edward's on Sunday morning or warm up those insides with the popular drinking play, Bye Bye Liver. Read on to see what else is in store.

Friday (Jan. 13):

Handmade Happy Hour @ Katie's Pizzeria
This shopping extravaganza features local handmade vendors and vintage curators including Miss Ohio Vintage, WOVEN weaving, Gebb's Goobs and much more along with complimentary wine and appetizers. Free admission. 5 to 9:30 p.m.

Snow Ball @ Moonrise Hotel
As a prelude to the 7th Annual Loop Ice Carnival, Moonrise Hotel hosts a Snow Ball. $30 admission includes two drink tickets for cool cocktails, a tapas buffet, live music and some surprises in store. Tickets are available on the Moonrise Hotel's Web site. 7 to 11 p.m.

Glow 2: Gore in the Dark @ Koken Art Factory
Be daring this Friday the 13th with free Red Bull energy drunks, live DJed music and glowing horror-inspired outfits. Admission is $10. 7 p.m. to 3 a.m.

Saturday (Jan. 14):

The Classics: Bouillabaisse and Paella Course @ The Kitchen Conservatory
Enjoy lunch with chef Bernard Pilon of the Norwood Hills Country Clubs as he demonstrates the production of classic bouillabaisse with various fish and shellfish, onions, white wine, garlic and saffron. He also prepares Spanish paella with meats, shellfish and saffron-flavored rice. Sample this colorful meal and take home the skills to make it yourself by registering online at the Kitchen Conservatory Web site for $55 a person. 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

7th Annual Loop Ice Carnival @ Delmar Loop
This all-day event features plenty of frozen fun including live ice carving demos, ice slides, a s'mores roast, hot chocolate, a skateboarding demo and vodka tasting with DJ Mahf on the Moonrise Hotel Rooftop Terrace Bar from noon to 4 p.m., a free putt-putt themed pub crawl from Cicero's to the Pageant from noon to 5 p.m. and much more. Warm up @ Sump Coffee
This Saturday afternoon, co-owner Scott Carey hosts a coffee brew methods class, demonstrating and discussing various methods such as french press, machine/Bunn automatic brewer, cloth filter drip, siphon filter/vac pot, chemex, and Kyoto-drip along the spectrum of flavor clarity versus body. The course is already booked full, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't stop in to this fledgling coffee shop during regular business hours to learn about what's in your coffee cup. Open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Bye Bye Liver @ Maggie O'Brien's
Outrageous comedy sketches based around drinking, $6 Bud pitchers and $4 house drinks continue to dominate weekends at Maggie O'Brien's. Check it out for $14 a seat; tickets available on the Maggie O'Brien's Web site. 8 p.m.

Sunday (Jan. 15):

Beignet Sundays @ King Edward's Chicken & Fish
Enjoy special fresh beignets piled high with powdered sugar at King Edward's from now through February 19th as an homage to the owners' New Orleans roots and Mardi Gras. Get one for 99 cents, three for $2.89, or three with coffee for $3.79. 8 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.

Sampling Sundays @ The Sappington Farmers' Market
Meet area food purveyors Dogtown Pizza, Avery's Amazing Marinades and Andrea's Gluten-Free products during this weekly sampling event. While you're there, enjoy this Sappington Farmers' Market coupon, good from noon to 5 p.m. to receive a discount off of your groceries. Free. Noon to 5 p.m.

$10 Buckets @ Syberg's on Dorsett
Enjoy Sunday night football, grab some comforting bar food and drink cheap brews at $10 a bucket. 7 to 10 p.m.
