New Caffeinated Kettle Chips Infused With Taurine, Vitamin B and, Uh, Caffeine

Caffeinated kettle chips to pair with our Red Bull. What could go wrong.
We'd be lying if we said we'd imagined a beautiful Frankenstein hybrid of our favorite kettle chips and our favorite energy drink ingredients taurine and caffeine uniting in one product. That would be a lie. With that said, when Gut Check learned that foodstuffs producer Arma recently released caffeinated BBQ-flavored kettle chips we were, how shall we say it...seized with excitement and curiosity -- and then fear upon learning that the chips, like energy drinks or alcohol, aren't advised for consumption by pregnant women or children. Yikes. These chips mean business.

Our first impulse was to drop everything and organize a kettle chips search party, but because it's 2012 and Arma has an informative, user-friendly website, we learned that the chips aren't currently retailing in the St. Louis area. Instead of simply moving on (obviously this has changed our world and there's no going back), Gut Check sent an email to Arma asking for product samples of its Cobra BBQ kettle chips. Should we receive and taste test the chips, we'll be sure to report back with a full report. Are these chips as delicious a marriage of ingredients as our minds have imagined them to be?

A quick look at the nutritional information for these chips reveals disappointing (surprise) stats: a two ounce bag of chips contains 70 milligrams of caffeine and is 270 calories per serving, as compared to an eight ounce can of Sugar-Free Red Bull, which clocks in at 80 milligrams of caffeine at only ten calories per serving. That seems like a lot of extra calories for the same questionable ingredients and intended result, but hey, since when is Gut Check watching our waistline.
