Fork & Stix to Bring Northern Thai Cuisine to Delmar Loop
As Sauce was first to report, a Thai restaurant called Fork & Stix will open this fall at 549 Rosedale Avenue, the east Delmar Loop storefront vacated earlier this year by the Ethiopian restaurant Selam.
Opening a Thai restaurant in the Delmar Loop might seem foolish, as the neighborhood already boasts four, all owned by Supatana "Pat" Prapaisilapa: Thai Cafe (6170 Delmar Boulevard; 314-862-6868), Thai Country Cafe (6223 Delmar Boulevard; 314-862-0787), Thai Gai Yang Cafe (6250 Delmar Boulevard; 314-862-4400) and Thai Pizza Co. (608 Eastgate Avenue; 314-862-4429).
After a brief chat this afternoon with Phatcharin Wanna, part of the family opening Fork & Stix, Gut Check can report that this Thai restaurant will be at least a little bit different.
"I'm from the north," of Thailand, Wanna tells Gut Check, and Fork & Stix will feature northern Thai cuisine, which generally eschews many of the elements that Americans typically consider to be hallmarks of Thai cuisine, such as coconut milk and hot chiles.
The Fork & Stix menu won't be completely unfamiliar, however, Wanna says: "We'll have cuisine from the Bangkok area as well."
The restaurant will also feature a few Japanese noodle and appetizer dishes. Wanna hastens to add that these Japanese dishes won't include sushi.
Look for Fork & Stix to open next month.
