Pastaria Opens in Clayton, Tweet Announces [Updated]

So there we were, drinking a beer yesterday evening, eating leftover pizza, half-watching Thursday Night Football, when what should come across the Twitter wire but this, from Gerard Craft, leader of the Niche (1831 Sidney Street; 314-773-7755) restaurant empire:

Got that? Pastaria, one of Gut Check's five most anticipated restaurants for 2012 and one of Eater's most anticipated restaurant openings of the fall nationwide, is now open at 7734 Forsyth Boulevard in Clayton.

And we guess Gut Check should report it?

The background, should you need it: Pastaria is Craft's casual Italian concept, with a menu heavy on pastas and pizzas. (Our friend George Mahe of St. Louis Magazine snapped a pic of the menu.) Pastaria actually began life as Porano, the Italian concept that Craft had planned to replace Niche at its original Benton Park location. Though Craft decided to shelve Porano and retain Niche, a big change is coming for his flagship restaurant: later this year, Niche will relocate into the Clayton space next-door to Pastaria.

We're working to get Pastaria's exact hours of operation for this weekend. More as we learn it.

Update: (Friday, September 14, 10:35 a.m.) Just heard from Gerard Craft, who says that this weekend the restaurant will be open 5-10 p.m. this evening and Saturday. As for Sunday, he says the staff will "play it by ear." The regular schedule will be seven days a week, however.
