Ethiopian Restaurant Opens in Former Hooked Seafood Bar

The sign remains. The restaurant is different.
Driving back to the office from lunch this afternoon, I noticed an Open sign lit in the front window of the former Hooked Seafood Bar (8613 Olive Boulevard, University City) -- or what I'd assumed was the former Hooked location, as that restaurant seemed to have shuttered in August.

Nevertheless, the Hooked sign remained above the entrance, and the restaurant looked identical, right down to the seafood-shack-aping laminated newspaper pages atop the tables.

One glimpse at the restaurant's menu proved that this is an entirely new venture. Specifically, it's an Ethiopian restaurant called Red Sea Café.

When I asked about the Hooked sign, the owner told me that, as of yet, he hadn't been able to acquire the necessary permit to replace it.

He also told me that this Red Sea has no connection to the late Red Sea Restaurant (6511 Delmar Boulevard, University City) in the Delmar Loop.
