Put Down The Night Cheese -- Ben & Jerry's Announces New 30 Rock Ice Cream

When Gut Check learned that season seven of 30 Rock would be the show's last, we were sad to say the least. This Thursday, January 31, we'll say goodbye to 30 Rock for good when it's season finale airs. Here's an excerpt from a memorial Gut Check penned this past spring when the show's final season was announced:

The finale of a favorite show is always a tearful event, but 30 Rock has become much more than a 30-minute meta sitcom. Liz Lemon is herself a food institution, the likes of which didn't exist on television before Tina Fey came along and gave awkward, smart, food-loving women everywhere an icon. Previously unspeakable moments of weakness involving fried breading and cheese have become self-abating comedy fodder instead of objects of shame.

In tribute to Liz Lemon, Gut Check brainstormed some food pairings for the event: hot dogs, teamster sub sandwiches, Cheesy Blasters, ham, Sabor de Soledad, meat lover's pizza, mozzarella sticks, donuts, night cheese, carp po-boy with extra chuckle...she's really left us endless menu options.

But then we learned that Ben & Jerry's is releasing a new 30 Rock ice cream to send Liz Lemon off the right way.

We want to go to there.

According to a press release issued yesterday by Ben & Jerry's, the flavor of its new 30 Rock-themed ice cream will be announced on January 31 to coincide with the series' finale by company co-founder Jerry Greenfield in Rockefeller Center. Guests in attendance will watch the finale while sampling the 30 Rock ice cream.

Following 30 Rock's final episode, the ice cream flavor will be available nationwide in Ben & Jerry's ice cream shops and, soon after that, in grocery stores.

Our favorite line from the Ben & Jerry's press release nicely sums up the collaboration: "In syndication, and now in the freezer, it is certain that the memory of 30 Rock will live on."

But what will the secret flavor be? Or more importantly, what should it be? If it's "Liz Lemony" we're going to be really conflicted -- on the one hand, it's still a nice tribute, but on the other hand, that's too boring a sendoff for such a beloved character.

Check back for a full list of Gut Check's 30 Rock ice cream flavor suggestions.

Wouldn't it make more sense to do this when it was on the air?
