It has been a quiet week, generally speaking, for food recalls involving the Greater Gut Check Metropolitan Area. A quiet month, for that matter. Maybe it has something to do with New Year's resolutions: Gonna scrub the ol' slaughterhouse and keep 'er spotless this year!

A Springfield, Illinois outfit, Humphrey's Market Inc., recalled a few thousand pounds o' frozen poultry following an apparent brain fart that resulted in raw, prepackaged "Lemon Pepper Chicken Breast" and "Bacon-wrapped Turkey Breast Filet" leaving the plant without benefit of inspection. Also implicated: an assortment of ready-to-eat chicken preparations that may contain allergens but weren't labeled as such.

As of January 17, when the voluntary recall was issued, no illnesses had been reported.
Curiously, though the recall notice states that the products "were sent to a distributor for direct home delivery in Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska," it does not name the distributor.

A li'l Googling reveals the likely source, however.

A Kansas City-based outfit called Guaranteed Foods Inc. serves the region mentioned in the recall and offers a menu containing items that match those cited in the recall.

Though the company's website contains a section headlined "News Alerts," as of this morning there was no mention of the Humphrey's recall anywhere on the site, nor on the Guaranteed Foods Facebook page or Twitter feed. Gut Check has a call in to Guaranteed Foods on that.

The only other U.S. food recall we know of from this past week involved a Wisconsin retailer that only sells to locals; it's notable in that several illnesses (from e. coli) were reported.
