International Tap House (91711 South 9th Street; 314-621-4333)

The Hours: Monday through Thursday, 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.

The Deal: Monday: Half off select beers on tap; Tuesday: $3 Missouri drafts and bottles; Wednesday: Beer specials from a featured brewery; Thursday: $1 off 12-ounce bottles, $2 off 22-ounce bottles and $3 off 750-milliliter bottles for iTap Passport members.

The Scene: If the name didn't already give it away, iTap is a destination for beer drinkers. With more than 40 rotating taps, iTap also boasts nearly 500 different beers from 25 different countries packing its coolers. Don't expect to just walk in knowing what to order; spend a little quality time with the bar's thirteen-page beer menu and pick out just what type of beer you're in the mood for. Not a beer person? That's OK: The front page of the menu has recommendations other than brews, and iTap has a selection of ciders, too.

The brew bar offers a low-key drinking experience. Some beers run $6 to $7 for a pint, so if you're operating on a limited happy hour budget, no one is drinking to get drunk. There's also no dance floor, so if the Delirium Tremens has you feeling a little, ahem, delirious, take it elsewhere -- after all, there's plenty of places to do so in Soulard. Though iTap doesn't offer dinner options, it's next-door neighbor Epic Pizza & Subs (1711 South 9th Street; 314-644-4430) more than makes up for it (grab a pizza at Epic and enjoy it at iTap over beers.)

Caillin Murray
A Bell's Hopslam Ale. Drink it slow, it has a 10 percent alcohol content.
Why You'll Go Back: Simply put, because you like beer. If you've ever had the frustrating experience of finding a fantastic beer locally or while traveling abroad but are unable to locate it again, pine no more. iTap probaly has the beer you're looking for -- and if the bar doesn't have it, it's likely its bartenders can recommend another beer like it.

The Verdict: With pricier pints packing a higher than average alcohol content, a night at iTap should be more of a special treat than a weekly undertaking. But if you're feeling worldly and adventurous, prepared to be surprised at the gems it offers.
