J. Gumbo's to Rise from the Ashes
J. Gumbo's had been open for only three weeks when a five-alarm fire swept through its building at 3949 Lindell Boulevard in the Central West End. No one was killed or seriously injured in the fire on July 17 of last year, which destroyed multiple floors of apartments as well as J. Gumbo's and the building's other ground-floor retail tenants.
Now, seven months later, J. Gumbo's has finally announced plans to reopen in a new location.
J. Gumbo's posted news of the reopening on its Facebook page a few weeks ago:
Signed the lease for new location. The Syndicate building, located at 915 Olive St. is our new home! It's on the west side of the building between Olive and Locust downtown. We will be posting pics an[d] updates on FB and twitter so follow to be in the know.
Gut Check reached out to the owners of the St. Louis J. Gumbo's franchise for more information on the exact timeframe for the reopening. More as we learn it.
J. Gumbo's is a fast-casual chain that specializes in Cajun and Creole fare. It now has locations in nine states, counting Missouri.
