January 2013 Openings & Closings
We'll begin the January 2013 accounting of openings and closings with some news from our friends at Sauce: Kaslik Restaurant is now open, serving Middle Eastern cuisine, at 8141 North Lindbergh Boulevard in Florissant. Owner Wesam Hamed was previously an owner and the chef at Layla Lebanese Restaurant (4317 Manchester Avenue; 314-535-5500). He confirms to Gut Check that he is no longer involved with that restaurant. Kaslik is open from 9 a.m.-11 p.m. daily. Its online presence is not yet up and running; however, you can reach the restaurant at 314-972-8282.

The first month of the new year saw two more restaurants join the Mercantile Exchange downtown. It also saw the farewell of a sushi standby in Clayton.
