OK, so our attempt to identify the most underrated restaurant for "sealing the deal" was a dud. No matter. We pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and move on to a matter of more universal importance.

Who has the most underrated fried chicken in St. Louis?

Sure, we all know about a St. Louis institution like Hodak's Restaurant & Bar (2100 Gravois Avenue; 314-776-7292), where the fried chicken is so popular you often have to wait in line just to get a table. And Gut Check and the RFT as a whole have given love to places like Porter's Fried Chicken (3628 South Big Bend Boulevard, Maplewood; 314-781-2097) and, most recently, Farmhaus (3257 Ivanhoe Avenue; 314-647-3800).

What places haven't we or St. Louis in general given their just dues for their fried chicken? Leave your nominations in the comments of this post. Be sure to include a description of why the fried chicken is underrated -- the more evocative the description, the better.

Nominations are open through noon this Friday, March 1. Voting will open next Monday, March 4.

The Chicken Coop in St. Charles has the MOST UNDERRATED fried chicken.  Period.

No doubt it's Picadilly at Manhattan. There should be a line out their door. It's everything you want in fried chicken: light, crispy, buttery crust, and juicy, tender meat. And the sides rock too.

I'll cast a vote for King Edwards. And even though it's a chain, Popeye's Spicy chicken is some really good stuff.

Fischers Restaurant, Belleville.......... To get a better piece of chicken, you'd have to be a rooster.

The Lemp Mansion has a fried chicken dinner on Sundays that is top notch!

I thought for a long time that Fergies in South County had the best fried chicken until I tried Tip Top.  There is no doubt that Tip Top is the best tasting, hottest fried chicken in the city, and the service is also the best.

Porters isn't bad, but their fried chicken is oftentimes cold.

Castelli's Moonlight Restaurant at 255.

Only problem is it's not in proper St. Louis City or County. However, it is within the STL Metropolitan Area (Alton, IL). The Yelp reviews on this place says it all. The fried chicken recipe is trademarked!

London’s Wing House.  If you haven't been there, go.  I started going to the Grand and M.L.King location in the 80's.  They are now not far from the loop.  Granted, my favorite fried chicken is gizzards, but their wings can't be beat either.  If you want to try food that is unique to St. Louis, and chicken is your thing, this is it.

Another vote for King Edwards; you can really tell the difference that a quality fresh never-frozen chicken makes.

King Edwards Chicken and Fish on Watson Road. Besides their chicken coming out perfectly juicy every time, their batter is a unique one that I haven't found anywhere else. Not to mention, their cajun flavor comes out in anything from a po' boy to their hush puppies- this stuff is GOOD.

Uh, duh Ian, your neighborhood best - Mama Josephine's.  It's fried to order, has skin as crispy as a potato chip and comes with mashed potato's and gravy to dip it in.

King Edwards Chicken and Fish in Crestwood! I'm sure the original location in St. Charles is also great, but I've only been to this one. Fantastic chicken at great prices.

Leon's fried chicken at Wildflower Restaurant on Sunday nights. The crust has just the right amount of crunchiness and seasonings, while the meat is almost overly juicy and tender. On the side? Creamy mashed potatoes and al dente green beans. Fabulous.
