Randall's to Hold Irish Whiskey Tasting
Do you need a reminder? You do not need a reminder. Gut Check, however, needs a lede. So: St. Patrick's Day is Sunday. To get you in the mood, Randall's Wines and Spirits (14201 Manchester Road, Ballwin; 636-527-1002) is holding a "meeting" of its Whisk(e)y Club on this evening at 7 p.m.
This month's theme is, of course, Irish whiskey, and to celebrate, Randall's is bringing in Jameson "ambassador" Eoin Derham (his first name is pronounced "Owen"). At the meeting, whiskey experts and noobs alike will discuss Irish whiskey's history, heritage and production. Derham will also explain what makes Irish whiskey distinct from, say, Scottish or American whiskey.
Feel free to ask him whether his status as a Jameson ambassador confers upon him diplomatic immunity.
According to Randall's website, the tasting lineup will include the following spirits:
Paddy Old Irish Whiskey
Jameson Irish Whiskey
Jameson 12 Year Special Reserve
Jameson Gold
Powers Irish Whiskey
Powers 12 Year Special Reserve
Redbreast 12 Year
Redbreast Cask Strength
Two days later, on Friday, March 15, the south city Randall's Wine and Spirits (1910 South Jefferson Avenue; 314-865-0199) will have a Jameson tasting with a bagpiper from 5-7 p.m. We were under the impression that bagpipes were traditionally Scottish, but if you give us enough whiskey, they can be whatever you want, Randall's!
Tickets for the tastings are $10 each, and Randall's suggests you call in advance to reserve a spot.
