Maplewood is a hip, happenin' and, of course, delicious neighborhood full of unique restaurants and shops. The town is celebrating all things yummy this Saturday, May 18 at the 5th annual Taste of Maplewood Street Festival.

One block of Sutton Boulevard between Manchester and Hazel will cease to be a road and instead become a foodie paradise, with vendors offering samples and live music and entertainment. Gut Check spoke to Nick Bettger at the Maplewood Chamber of Commerce who gave us more details about the event.

Check out what restaurants are going to be there after the jump!

The festival starts at noon on Saturday and ends at 9 p.m. Admission and entertainment are free, but vendors will be charging for food and drinks.

There will also be an informal contest to see what food and drink will win the title of "Best of Taste of Maplewood." There's no prize for winning, per se, but glory and bragging rights are pretty awesome nonetheless. Maplewood has rounded up some celebrity judges for the contest including Allyson Mace, editor of Sauce Magazine, John Carney, host of 550 KTRS's evening show and James White, the mayor of Maplewood.

Many vendors are non-profits raising money for organizations through food and drink sales, but restaurants from the area will also be there to show off their stuff. The following restaurants will be at the event:

Acero (7266 Manchester Avenue; 314-644-1790)
Boogaloo (7344 Manchester Avenue; 314-645-4803)
Foundation Grounds (7298 Manchester; 314-601-3588)
Kakao Chocolate (7272 Manchester; 314-645-4446)
Las Palmas (7356 Manchester Avenue; 314-645-3364)
Maya Cafe (2726 Sutton Boulevard; 314-781-4774)
Pie Oh My (2719 Sutton Boulevard; 314-704-4416)
Schlafly Bottleworks (7260 Southwest Avenue; 314-241-2337)
Strange Donuts (2709 Sutton Boulevard)
The Crow's Nest (7336 Manchester Avenue; 314-781-0989)
The Post Sports Bar & Grill (7372 Manchester Road; 314-645-1109)
The Wood (2733 Sutton Boulevard; 314-781-4146)
Tiffany's Original Diner (7402 Manchester Road; 314-644-0929 )
Water Street Cafe and Cocktail Bar (7268 Manchester Road; 314-646-8355)

Bettger says the Maplewood Chamber of Commerce will be selling beer at the event, and of course, Schlafly Bottleworks is in Maplewood, so expect plenty of cold brews.

Guests can dance the day away to the music of The Blue Devils Rhythm & Blues Band, UJ & The Down Home Blues Band and The Dave Glover Band on the main stage, while local dance groups and even the Maplewood Fire Department will be putting on shows on the community stage.

Previous years have seen thousands of visitors flock to Maplewood to eat, drink and be merry, and Bettger expects this year will be no exception. He notes that there is generally parking south of the festival on Sutton Boulevard, but that parking in the lot on nearby Marietta Avenue or taking the Metrolink to the Maplewood station would be the best bets.

"Visitors are able to visit all of their favorite shops and restaurants under sunny skies while enjoying live entertainment and music," says festival chairman Mitch Orlando. "What's better than that?"
