Sub Zero Vodka Bar (308 North Euclid Avenue; 314-367-1200) owners Lucas and Derek Gamlin announced last year they were following up their successful Central West End venture with another one -- a steak house. Months later, it's still a steak house, albeit one with a big focus on whiskey. Gut Check talked to Lucas Gamlin to get the scoop on when we'll be able to finally check it out.

Gamlin Whiskey House is set to open in September, with a grand-opening celebration later in the month. "Construction's been going really well. We're very excited," Gamlin says. "Our response has been overwhelmingly positive. Everybody's really excited for it to open. They think it's a niche that needs to be filled in the neighborhood."

The space used to house Liluma (236 North Euclid Avenue), but chef Jim Fiala closed the bistro last December. He'll be a minority partner with the Gamlin brothers. The team is finalizing Gamlin Whiskey House's menu, which will feature steaks and "traditional steak-house options," but with a Gamlin twist. Standout items include a signature kale salad and bourbon-brined fried chicken.

They also went down to Kentucky a few weeks ago to tour Maker's Mark and Jim Beam; Gamlin brought back a Knob Creek single barrel to feature at Gamlin Whiskey House. As for the decor, Gamlin says it'll have a simliar feel to Sub Zero Vodka Bar in that it will be high-end, but with more natural materials that go with whiskey.

Keep an eye on Gut Check as we get closer to the opening -- we'll definitely be trying it out!
