Blueberries, Tomatoes, and Hot Sauce at the Tower Grove Farmers' Market

Samples of deliciousness from Kitchen Kulture | Pat Kohm

Farmers' markets across St. Louis are in full swing, and as new crops are harvested, Gut Check will be there every step of the way to make sure you never miss out on the latest fresh veggies. This week, we returned to the Tower Grove Farmers' Market (at the intersection of Main Drive and Center Cross Drive, west of the wading pool; 314-771-4410) in Tower Grove Park. The market runs every Saturday morning, 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. Below is a quick guide to what you can find on your next trip.

After walking past a massive group of yoga practitioners, Gut Check made our return to the epic Tower Grove Farmer's Market, anxious to discover new items and booths. Luckily, we were immediately greeted by the lovely smells emanating from the Kitchen Kulture table, where tiny meals were being prepared on-site. Chris Meyer was kind enough to provide samples of the gumbo, gazpacho, and the Nicoise Salad (smoked rainbow trout, green beans, farm raised eggs and Pontiac potatoes), which was very, very good -- so good, in fact, that we took a tub home for later.

The next booth to catch our eye was Wicked Cactus Sauce, stacked with bottles of fiery hot sauce. Always seeking to impress, we sauntered over and requested the hottest sauce available and were promptly handed the "Aliento del Diablo." We gave it a taste and immediately searched frantically for a water fountain. The heat was impressive; we bought a bottle for later.

Next up: Blueberries!
