The St. Louis episode of Bizarre Foods American hits the Travel Channel tonight. Andrew Zimmern traveled to the gateway to the West back in March and hit up some of our favorite spots. It's time for a refresher.

Zimmern sampled some stuff that isn't so bizarre -- like barbecue -- but he also got a taste of some of our more exotic offerings. He had a brain sandwich at Schottzie's (11428 Concord Village Avenue, Green Park; 314-842-7244), head cheese at Gioia's (1934 Macklind Avenue; 314-776-9410), pig snoots at Smoki O's (1545 North Broadway; 314-621-8180) and a duck heart pastrami Reuben at Farmhaus (3257 Ivanhoe Avenue; 314-647-3800). He also chatted with Gerard Craft, the man behind Niche, Taste, Pastaria and Brasserie.

"What makes St. Louis unique is that sense of community," Zimmern told us back in March. "Outside of St. Louis people are obsessed with north side/south side, and that really doesn't exist here. I think it's a city of communities and neighborhoods that are diverse and different, and that's what St. Louis should be celebrating. And it is. And that's why people should come here."

As we've been finding out for ourselves, St. Louis does have unusual food, and it's totally delicious. Catch the St. Louis episode of Bizarre Foods America tonight at 8 p.m. on the Travel Channel.

The hot salami from Gioia's is hands down the best sandwich in St. Louis.
