Breastaurant Wars: Hooters Competitor Twin Peaks to Open St. Louis Location

Twin Peaks is coming to St. Louis, filling a desperate void of wings and boobs. The company, based in Dallas, will open a franchise in town in 2014 to be a knockoff competitor to Hooters (100 North Seventh Street; 314-588-0738).

The franchisee, a company called St. Louis Lodge Ventures, will open three locations in Kansas City (one is already up and running in Olathe) and not one but five in St. Louis in 2014. It's still too soon to even know where they will be located, Twin Peaks' Hannah Mason tells Gut Check.

To its credit, one thing Hooters prides itself on is the "delightfully tacky" whiff about the whole thing -- that and somewhat decent wings. It's in on the joke. Right? Twin Peaks, though, is really pushing the "you're a manly man" thing. The place is lumberjack-themed, bills itself as "the ultimate man cave" and serves up "hearty man fuel." Did we mention the "rugged mountain lodge setting"? Twin Peaks even one-ups Hooters in terms of skin.

You might think Hooters is a cheesy relic of the 1980s (and you'd be right) but the so-called breastaurant industry is actually growing. As we reported in 2011, chains like Twin Peaks, the Tilted Kilt Pub & Eatery (I-55 & Highway 41, Arnold; 636-287-6300) and Brick House Tavern + Tap (2 McBride and Son Center Drive, Chesterfield; 636-536-6291) have been rapidly expanding over the past several years.

Anyway, Twin Peaks is even throwing a party on September 26 for Lumberjack Day (obviously), but alas, St. Louis will be left out of the flannel fete, at least this year. You'll have to drive to KC to get your manly man on.

From where I hail Twin Peaks is the new kid on the block, but it is doing a lot more business than Hooters. Its food is also better, but of course it is not going to be as good as Chili's or Applebee's because it does not have to be when boobs and behinds bring in more business than the menu itself. Sometimes Twin Peaks is too crowded for me. So I think I will go more to Hooters than to Twin Peaks.

Yes, they are still a thing, and you cheap hacks are here to remind us.

The breast of the breastaurants (see what I did there?)...is The Tilted Kilt. They actually have decent food (a novel idea if you ask me - Hooters and Twin Peaks are freaking disgusting in the food departments). The fact that they have women who are somewhat revealing (although REALLY not any more than your average girl on her night out at the clubs - they're not in short shorts, for instance) is really not even the main deal of the place.

Awesome ! I love it - dont like it - dont go there

And I've been to a hooters and sho-mes a handful if times in my life and have never seen a bouncer

Kevin Rudroff

So now places like these contribute to rape. Do you believe tv and hip hop contribute to violence? Point is you have the right to go there or not. When I'm standing in line at the grocery store and its decorated with celebrity bikini bodies and how to lose weight secrets from some highly attractive women dressed in less than any hooters waitress my senses are being overloaded forcefully. And who reads that crap? Women! Women desire to be wanted by men! It's your nature! It's not a mans fault that this happens and it's not that offensive when he capitalizes on it to make a profit. Women capitalize on other women's bodies as well.

Kelle Deyne

Kevin- true. Agree. The fact that there are now 5 different "family friendly" restaurant chains that require boob cleavage and ass tight or shorter than short clothing- is not the issue. It's the fact there is a need for yet another chain with the same idea- different costume/menu. It's sad. I have a problem with the "this is wholesome family food establishment". It's not. I don't have a problem with it- just think it's a cheesy and pathetic way to get off. Go to a strip club or adult club and call it what it is!!! Especially in a culture that still blames women who are raped- on their clothing choices. There are reasons these particular places need bouncers and security. Does red robin have bouncer security for its servers? Please..... And hooters- with the owl's eyes directly where a woman's nipples are- yea, it's not bad at all. lmao

Kevin Rudroff
Kevin Rudroff

And if women don't think looks are something that should be important in this society, why do they paint them selves up like trannies, globbing on pounds of make up like Amie Marie

Kevin Rudroff
Kevin Rudroff

And seriously how many of you people have actually been to a hooters? It's a suggestive name! The girls there aren't as scantily clad as you think they are! And if you don't like men who are attracted to women, well good luck.

Kevin Rudroff
Kevin Rudroff

Get real folks! People CHOOSE to work there!!!!!!!! The girls that work there probably don't dress that differently in public! How can this be an issue about good food, and sexism? They had some good food at the festival of nations, and tons of ass cheek shorts too! Girls choose to show off what they have and guys are wired to look whether they like it or not. It's instinct!

This thread certainly gives the reader the idea that men who frequent these establishments are best avoided. Why am I not surprised to see that men who would be interested in this shit would also treat a woman like shit on the internet? Morons.

Kelle Deyne
Kelle Deyne

Lauren- many people hold masters degrees. The point is- I'm not saying anyone who works there is bad. I'm sure a handful work there and leave to go and do great things. But- remember- there are restrictions for who can work there. That being said... A woman has just a few years if that to work in the actual restaurants. It's a opinion. Like the hooker with a heart of gold- and the girl stripping her way through college. The culture of scantily clad or naked women serving food or fantasy- is in my opinion, 18 and up only. Call it what it is. A restaurant "attraction". I'm saying hiding behind the whole "it's a family place" is not true and misleading. I'm sure they treat the girls well. In many ways. *eye roll*. I'm sure it's in the top 10 best places for female employment opportunity. It's ok. It's just a perspective. Relax. No one is judging a stranger. I am giving an opinion on "restaurants" that are boob and butt related. If that offends anyone, but the culture of subordination of women doesn't.... Then you're part of the problem. At least in other countries they call it like it is. A grub and grab ass bar with mediocre food.

I'm sorry...Twin Peaks?! LOL Why don't we name it Burgers, Fries & Tits and call it a day? I'm sure ppl will go there, u know, for the hot wings. Kinda like ppl get Playboy, for the interviews. And the ladies who put on their I'm-awesome-cuz-I-go-with-my-hubby-and-make-objective-comments-with-him (and, the hot wings ARE good...)...don't forget to take the kids!! You really gotta laugh at it. C'mon StL, if we're gonna get all up in the "breastaurants", where's the Hard C*ck Cafe? You bring me some of that, and I may even try some Twin Peaks...if I'm feeling "adventurous"...

Kristin Scudder
Kristin Scudder

No- sorry, MEN are not behind this. Real men don't need this shit to know they are a man. But those of the male gender that are feeling less than "manly" in their penis size- need to be reminded that they are still a man. My husband doesn't go to these places, beacuse he has two daughters and a wife, and places like this do nothing to further woman.I pity the guys that have to go to these places. These are the same guys that drive around with big trucks with fake balls hanging off the knob. Overcompensation for what we know they are lacking in the nether region.

Lauren Dugan

I know a college graduate, masters degree holding, intelligent woman who claims that working at Hooters was one of the most empowering circumstances of her life. She also says the company treats employees incredibly well, and offers gain-sharing. While this may be the exception, not the rule, it is her life and decision. What saddens me throughout this post is how quickly men and women put each other down just because they disagree. I honestly have no problem with the women who work at these restaurants, or the men that frequent them. I have a problem with the so called adults who are teaching children and others it is okay to belittle strangers for having a difference of opinions.

Andrew Kamadulski

Their food stinks. If I got to a restaurant I want quality food, not boobs. If I want boobs, they have places for that too.

Not mad at all! Just writing a opinion. The girls that work there to me, are just as dirt baggy as the idiots that eat there. Keep boobs where boobs belong- for the over 18 crowd. Must be 21 to serve alcohol there. Is it not a question why all these type of places have full time bouncers and security? There is a reason. The clientele are not fully evolved into society. Can't keep hands to themselves. Wonder why... Because it is a sexual assault. It happens constantly there at these places. Which goes back to my original statement of "in my opinion" feeds the rape and assault culture on women. The servers as well.

Lynn Pevey
Lynn Pevey

Kelle, it just shows that men are behind these business ideas because the men of our society dictate that "sex sells" even if it is only selling a load of hot wings and beer with a side of tits in your face. The days of the cavemen have never wavered in that respect I suppose. It's a shame that women have to be demoralized and dummied down in order for a man to make a buck in this day and age. It makes me proud to have raised my son to see the value of a woman outside of her looks or bra size. Let's just hope that if prostitution becomes legal in St. Louis that a woman will step up and take the reigns instead of a man because we've all seen how that works out for women in that profession.

Tony Bologna
Tony Bologna

Then don't go. Women apply to work there knowing what kind of place it is. Be mad at your gender for working at these places, not at men for going there.

Kelle Deyne
Kelle Deyne

Tony- it's valid. What young women wear- is constantly thrown around. I am all for sexy.... it's just you can't do sexy boobs in the face and then claim to be "family". Makes no sense. The same people who take the family there- would shun their own daughters/wives for wearing the uniforms. In fact- most airlines wouldn't even let you on a plane, and it's not a far fetched comment I am making. The same men would consider woman slutty for wearing it. But when in a wings and burgers cheaply made chain restaurant- is all ok? It's just stupid. Just an opinion. It's dirt baggy.

Daniel Stout
Daniel Stout

The way the men on this thread are treating the women on this thread (and probably in other parts of their life) saddens me. The way that you are attacking them is just more proof that we live in a society that still treats women like garbage. Your justification of your views is why this type of violence will never go away.

Daniel Stout

This will not come as a shocker to you, Lynn. Hold onto your sneakers...ready?...Sexism, heterosexism and misogyny are each alive and well in the restaurant industry and most certainly on this thread.

Kelle Deyne
Kelle Deyne

Obviously, Steve. It's just tacky. Chain restaurants suck for food as it is. It's the sexual repression that is sad. You have to go eat wings and burgers with boobs in your face. Kind of pathetic, really.

Tony Bologna

Lol @ kelle turning a twin peaks article about rape

Tony Bologna

From what I understand Twin Peaks doesn't hire from the sex slave industry, woman apply to work there willingly. I could be wrong and they could pull helpless woman off the streets and beat them into submission. Just because no one finds you attractive doesn't mean you can attack men over it.

Kevin Laune
Kevin Laune

Settle down, Kelle Deyne. If you don't like it...don't go. I guess you just want these "rapists" to go to the strip clubs as well? Only a moron would walk into this place and stay for more than 5 minutes without realizing what the "theme" is. If they are offended, they can leave.

Steve Mincer

i don't think people are going to confuse this place for denny's.

That was the shocker? Wow, do you lead a dull ass life...and Birkenstocks?? Seriously? Your education of women has obviously come from a long line of chauvinistic and fashion illiterate dumbasses...good luck with that.

Steve, just because they "like to" doesn't give them the right to.

Kelle Deyne

What says "family restaurant" like boobs and cheesy labeled sexually referenced food! I have no problem with strip clubs or adult entertainment- but the guise of having lunch and dinner with sexual undertones is just tacky and hypocritical. Then the servers leave, get raped and those same men blame her clothing choices. Dumb. Go to a strip club and get the real deal- and many of them have food.

Don't forget the Tilted Kilt in St. Charles. All I knew when I decided to take my wife there for dinner was that it was a Scottish pub. She was so mad at me but I had a good time.

I like boobs. I even touched one once.

cshs1965

Some do, some don't. There are men that went to strip clubs before they got married and have wonderful marriages. And there are men who had other faults besides lusting with their eyes but were sullen, selfish, and hard to live with. I have even seen a number of families at Hooters. I think it is okay for young girls to go to Hooter's with mom and dad, but I think it is better for boys to wait. But what do I know, I am just one person who has been to all of these places and have never been married. I have my strong points and my weak points just like most people.

@Kelle Deyne , According to the Gospel of Kelle, the beach is no longer a family place. Waterslide parks are not family places. Puritans never were right about expressing the rights of the people. Stop looking down these girls shirts, and look around one of the places at the dinner hour. Families do go there, and have a fun time. No harm is done. You are pre-judging the place based on your own repressed attitudes.

cshs1965
cshs1965

I agree with your comment. There are women who can do this kind of work for the "money only" and are otherwise just everyday women, who are not out to titillate or to turn on a man. And I talked to a really nice young lady at Hooters who said she used to work at Applebee's, a family restaurant by anyone's standards where the food is better; however, she said she worked at Hooter's because the tips were a lot better. But I think she was also going to school and I know she was not planning on making a career of waiting tables.

JamesMadison
JamesMadison topcommenter

@Amie Marie , name-calling? Would you call a woman at the beach a whore for wearing a conservative bikini? That shows more skin than their outfits. Are you ashamed of the human body made in God's own image? These waitresses are not engaging in sex with the customers. Jealousy is quite ugly.

JamesMadison
JamesMadison topcommenter

@Kelle Deyne , some airlines will require women to cover up. Why? Because of people like you! There is nothing indecent about the human body. God made us in His own image. The waitresses like to flirt and get great tips for working hard. Rejoice that they can earn a living and enjoy life. Or start your own restaurant to compete with them - Amish Grannies.
