Adrian Grenier Visits Three Kings Pub, Allegedly Wanted Everyone to Buy Him Shots

Adrian Grenier stopped in STL last week. | Eva Rinaldi

After settling in last week with a 4 Hands Resurrection IPA at Three Kings Public House (6307 Delmar Boulevard, University City; 314-721-3355), Gut Check got to chatting with the staff and they told us a juicy bit of gossip: Apparently, Entourage star Adrian Grenier had been in on Wednesday, October 23.

Grenier apparently had a speaking gig at Washington University -- the student paper reports that attendees started walking out twenty minutes into his talk about sustainability and not using plastic bags. Maybe that's why he felt the need to trudge over to Three Kings and drown his sorrows. If that happened to us, we'd probably order something strong and heavy to wash the pain away, right? Not Vincent Chase.

Grenier was sipping on Patron, soda and orange juice with a splash of lime. According to the bartenders, he repeatedly asked them to give him free shots (they refused) and then tried to get women in the bar to buy him shots. One fan allegedly asked the bartender what Grenier was drinking and after hearing his froufrou cocktail order, she bought him a shot of bourbon.

The Three Kings staff agreed that Grenier was "a real douche." We only wish we'd been there to channel our inner Ari:

That is such a douche move of Adrian Grenier!  He should have paid every single person's tab at 3 Kings that night, posed for facebook and instagram pictures with everyone, and talk about Entourage all night with everyone there, possibly reenacting some of the more famous scenes.

I lived in Los Angeles for 8 years; I worked in the industry. I waited on celebrities and "stars" everyday...and just like everyone else I waited on, some were very polite and nice, and some were very difficult. Folks, "THEY" are just people. So what if he asked for a shot, I'm sure he's paid for plenty. I feel sorry for young actors with any success, the leeches come out of the woodwork to suck the blood from them. I watched a young Nick Cage get stuck with a bill for 15 people one night, after all the food and drink were consumed his "friends" slunk out the door one by one. The waiter presented him with the bill...one other guy stayed at the table and gave him $10...I'm certain the bill was at least $200. Poor Nick was apologizing to the waiter for not leaving a very good tip, and promised he'd come back to make up the rest the next day. He was counting change from his pocket!!

So this is mostly true. A server reported to our table that he was asking for a free shot, the servers refused. One of the bartenders poured an extra shot, his server offered it to him and he refused because he "didn't drink that".

Before hearing of this, I thought I'd send him a drink to see how he reacted. He sent the drink back, telling the server "everyone is trying to give me free drinks, I'm gonna be wasted". Certified D bag.

The key word is "allegedly". Adrian is a stand-up guy and very generous. I would have to agree that most likely he was buying the shots for others, not asking for them. Gossip is gossip....ignore it.

Fair enough. I'll redirect my disdain toward N. Stiles. Fucking amateur.

We don't call our customers names! For goodness sake the RFT really went wild here, insulted Wash U basically, insulted this guys performance at his speaking engagement, Three Kings, the bartenders, and the guy's drink!  This is just pure gossip and irresponsible reporting- it sounds like they 'reported' gossip they think they heard while out drinking.  Everyone I talked to was excited to see a celebrity, that he chose to come into our restaurant! who wouldn't be? It was big news. Too bad the RFT has insulted everyone to get a bit of a story.  This article makes it sound like Three Kings staff are a bunch of rude, judgmental people, when in reality everyone was pumped up to have such an exciting night. And for the record, this guy wasn't asking for free shots for himself being cheap, it was more like, "shots for everyone!" celebratory vibe.  RFT really missed the mark on this one.

Good to know the staff at 3K is willing to call its customers, famous or otherwise, "real douches." Fucking amateurs.

So he's a douche. A lot of actors are. Nothing new.

You know how you get drunk and act the fool? Oh yeah, you don't because you're perfect. I'm not condoning it but if this was just any schmo, they would have shrugged it off but because he's famous, blaugh! I think the douche bar is lower for celebrities because everyone is always watching everything they do. You have to be super Jesus 24/7 or someone blasts you on the internet because you said thanks instead of a gushing thank you. Know how sometimes you use the self check out because you really don't want to interact with people today? You can because you're anonymous. But seriously, don't be a douche. Also remember celebrities are people who get drunk too.

This is the unprofessional, 10th grade, "journalism" I've come to expect from RFT. No quotes. Just one bartender's out of context account of Adrain Grenier drinking at a bar. If I were the owners or staff of Three Kings I'd be upset with this article. Why would I ever go into a pub where the staff is going to openly talk about me after I leave because maybe I had a drink and said something kind of dumb. Asking someone to buy you a drink is hardly being a douche and far from ridiculous. If asking someone to buy me a drink is the worst thing I do during a night of drinking I'd consider that a win (You've all done it) then making fun of the fact he drinks patron and a few fruit mixers...sorry not everyone is a judgmental, IPA only, "won't drink anything if more than 3 people have heard of it" hipster. Seriously...grow up.

Normally, I'd be against this type of public shaming except that he was bothering other patrons and because I know some of the history of Three Kings. This place was bought and reopened by employees of the previous restaurant that occupied the space after it was run into the ground by the previous man. The employees take pride in their ownership of this pub and understandably resent some douchy pseudo celeb walking around like he owns the place. Ironically, just like in Entourage, some of these celebs don't have anyone telling them that they're being ridiculous, just a bunch oh sycophants telling them how great they are. Good on Three Kings for keeping it real.

Kristina Cheeseman I disagree. How else do people find out they are being douches if no one will tell them? The world would be a better place if people spoke up more often. Maybe douchery would be less common.

Do they do this to all of their annoying patrons? He was a douche and you're the douche for making it public matter.

I was wondering what he's been up to ever since Entourage ended. I wouldn't have expected this, specifically.
