Red Mango, St. Louis' Sole Location, Is Closed

The now-closed Kirkwood location.
The sole St. Louis location of Red Mango (104 N. Kirkwood Road; Kirkwood), the frozen yogurt chain, has closed. Froyo is all the rage lately, and Red Mango offered all-natural, gluten-free treats -- so what gives?

There was no answer when we called the Kirkwood location, and although Red Mango corporate wouldn't give us the franchisee's contact information, they did give us the scoop on the demise of Red Mango-Kirkwood.

Red Mango's Erica Green confirmed that the Kirkwood location is indeed closed permanently.

"We are focusing our efforts on locations that align with our strategic growth plan," she says. "The Kirkwood location no longer meets our long-term goals, so the decision was made to close the location."

There are four other Red Mango locations in the state -- Kansas City, Missouri State University in Springfield, Northwest Missouri State in Maryville and University of Missouri-Columbia. And it's not like we're now living in a froyo desert -- St. Louis is still home to Tutti Fruitti, FroYo, the Island, Chill, Iggy's, the Flying Cow, Yo My Goodness and lots more.

Are you sad to see it go, or would you rather get local frozen yogurt?

There used to be a Red Mango in L.A. and it was the best of the froyo chains. I was bummed when it closed.

"The Kirkwood location no longer meets our long-term goals, so the decision was made to close the location." = it wasn't making money for them.
