Overview: Though probably not an immediate go-to for vegetarians -- the Block is, after all, a butcher shop -- this restaurant has a couple delightful entrees that non-meat eaters shouldn't miss. And if those dishes don't suffice, co-chefs and owners Brian Doherty and Marc DelPietro are happy to take veg requests, especially if it allows them to use ingredients from their in-house garden, which is plentiful with seasonal fruits and veggies.

Highlights: The Block's indulgent mac & cheese ($10.50) is every vegetarian and cheese-lover's dream. A skillet filled to the brim with pasta shells and cheese is baked to perfection. This dish is best shared, as even Gut Check had a difficult time making a dent in this cheese-ridden heaven.

The restaurant's open-faced farm egg sandwich ($9) is a simple delight. Fresh mozzarella cheese, tomatoes, arugula, mushrooms, garlic mayo and a fried egg are layered on a crispy piece of bread, served with a larger-than-life helping of french fries. Whether you dig in with your hands or take a knife-and-fork to this sammie, your taste buds will thank you.
