Christmas is already stressful enough. Several fantastic restaurants will be open, offering delicious dinners. Pick from prix fixe or a full menu. Before you criticize us for "promoting" restaurants being open on Christmas Eve, keep in mind that it's a tradition for many people. If you're looking for a great dinner to get the in-laws out of the house, look no further.

Balaban's Wine Cellar & Tapas Bar
(1772 Clarkson Road, Chesterfield; 636-449-6700)

It may not be the original, but Balaban's still has an excellent wine list. Enjoy some of the classic dishes and standard bistro fare with reasonably priced-wines. Short on Christmas gifts? Take some bottles home with you, too.

Thanks Collier. For those of you who are being judgmental. Not everyone celebrates Christmas and not everyone has family (me). So rather than sitting at home by myself all day long isolated because everything is closed and everyone else is home with their family on a holiday some of us want to go out. December is a painful month for some people (and now the Xmas season starts in Oct). I don't expect or demand anything to be open, but a small portion of places being open makes sense and some of us would like to know.

Also many restaurant workers..including myself...can't afford to take a day off work this time of year. The restaurants that are open are usually busy which is good for tipped staff

Thanks for making sure I do not get to spend Christmas eve with my 2 small children so that you and your friends can eat out this night and you will probably not say Merry Christmas or leave a decent tip, then I will have to call you a cab so you don't drunkenly kill a stranger on your drive home.

Of course, you're assuming the workers celebrate Christmas, or want to be with their families.

Evangeline's Bistro & Music House @evangelinesstl is open as well, and they have The Bob Band on Christmas night!  Show is from 7-9

While people are all into that convenience thing, I really feel for the workers that are required to work those days instead of being home with their families.

Sarah Anne - I will be your faux-family for the day. I'm in the same boat! Let's meet at TGIFridays & go see a movie :-)
