Weathermen and women forecast a slight increase in the mercury this weekend, just in time for beer anniversaries, wine dinners and the 12th Annual Food & Wine Experience. Seriously -- seize the opportunity to shake off the winter doldrums at some of the area's best food events. Sadly, temperatures are plummeting again come Monday.
Friday (Jan. 24):
The brewmasters at 4 Hands continue their Wizard of Oz-themed birthday parties with the release of "Beyond the Bricks," a "Belgian strong golden ale aged in Chardonnay barrels with apricots." That'll be just one of nine beers on tap including the "Cuvee Ange" and the peanut butter chocolate milk stout. Festivities begin at 3 p.m. and go until midnight. More information at their website here.
The Chase Park Plaza Hotel hosts this weekend-long benefit for the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis for the 12th year running. TIckets are still available for tonight's "premier tasting," which features hors d'oeuvres and the opportunity to taste 220 hard-to-find wines. Saturday and Sunday feature over 550 wines to try. General admission is $50 -- find tickets here.
Sunday (Jan. 26)
This serves not only as Urban Chestnut's third annual release of it's Wolpertinger beer, but a chance for the public to get a peek at the brewery's new operations and bierhall. Urban describes the "Wolpie" as "an ale aged in red wine barrels from California's Roth Estate vineyard for several months...dry, fruity, similar to a Flemish Brown (although less tart), approximately 9.0% ABV Ale." Don't forget to bring cash for the food trucks who will be onsite. Tickets are $40 and the event goes from 1 to 5 p.m. Get more info and tickets here.
This four-course feast is paired with the wines of Duckhorn Vineyards. The decadent menu features fois gras, lobster and sea urchin, served alongside expertly selected glasses of Duckhorn's Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and more. Dinner is served at 6:30 p.m. and tickets are $85 per person. Click here for more information.
