Cassy Vires Announces Critically Acclaimed Table Will Close March 9

Some surprising news from chef Cassy Vires yesterday afternoon -- her much-lauded Cherokee Street restaurant Table (1821 Cherokee Street; 314-449-1888) is closing its doors.

Vires announced drastic changes to its communal-dining philosophy back in January, but she specifically said the restaurant was not in trouble.

However, a message she wrote yesterday in the restaurant's newsletter says otherwise.

Vires did not respond to e-mail and phone messages asking for comment, but here's the message she sent to her listserv:

It is with heavy hearts that we send you this email today, as we sincerely regret that this will be our last weekend of service at Table. We made a good go of things, and it has been an uphill climb for sure. With a string of unforeseeable circumstances that have occurred over the past few months, keeping the doors open is simply no longer possible. This is Josh and my dream -- owning and operating our restaurants -- and we love our staff and our faithful customers to no end. All of our success is due to you all, and we are so grateful that you have given us the chance to follow our dreams and make them a reality, even if for only a time.

Home Wine Kitchen will remain open, and we do hope that we will see all of you in Maplewood. Please know that we love the Benton Park and Cherokee community, and we are so grateful that you welcomed Table into it.

Our last dinner service will be Sunday, March 9th, so please come see us and enjoy what we have to offer here at Table one more time!

First The Stable, then Table....anyone want to open up "Able" at that location? Can't wait till "Ble" opens up - sounds lovely.

That's too bad.   I had not been able to make it out that way since last fall, but really enjoyed their food.
