Scape (48 Maryland Plaza; 314-361-7227) is a well-known Central West End hot spot for dinner, but it's easy to forget there's an outdoor lounge, too. The bistro has been prepping its patio for spring and is even upgrading it with two 72-inch flat screens to watch all those Cards games. We got a sneak peek before the upcoming opening on Thursday, April 24.

You'll be able to enjoy dinner at the Backbar at Scape, but you don't have to. People can come in directly from Maryland or York avenues and sit beneath the lights and ivy-covered walls. There's a separate lounge area with a bar and hightop tables, complete with four taps and about a dozen local beers by the bottle. There's a special menu of seven appetizers, but diners won't be turned down if they want to order from the regular Scape menu.

Scape hoped to open the Backbar this week, but thanks to the unseasonably cold weather, it looks like it'll be next week instead. Every Wednesday you can watch the Cardinals on the flat-screens, with specials like Cardinals sangria.

Check out more photos of the Backbar. The grand opening party is Thursday, April 24, at 6 p.m. The Funky Butt Brass band will be playing, plus there will be sangria and Schlafly specials all night.
