Gamlin Whiskey House's New Barrel Room: An Exclusive Sneak Peek
Almost done! | Nancy Stiles
The bar at Gamlin Whiskey House (236 North Euclid Avenue; 314-875-9500) is routinely packed. Owners Lucas and Derek Gamlin have a very simple solution, though: expand into the space next door. Next week the brothers will unveil the Barrel Room in the former Green Bean space.
Derek Gamlin tells Gut Check the Barrel Room will be used for Gamlin's Whiskey Society loyalty program which starts in May; Gamlin says it'll be similar to the vodka club at SubZero. There will also be high top tables used for dinner seating.
The space can also be used for private events -- it can seat about 70. "Right now, if somebody wants a party of 50, that takes our entire dining room," Gamlin says. "It's not really cost effective for us to do it or for them to do it, for that matter. This will be better for that."
The Barrel Room adds another bar, which will be welcome news to those who have come to Gamlin only to see a crowded front room. Gamlin says barring any unforeseen complications, he'll be seating people in the Barrel Room next weekend. All the of furniture is white oak, the kind of wood used to age the whiskey. The wood behind the bar was reclaimed from the Green Bean space.
