The Best Food Events in St. Louis This Weekend: May 16 to 18

The sun will finally come out this weekend just in time for us all to enjoy outdoor festivals like Maifest, Taste of Maplewood and Winefest. So many options, so little time. Check out our food-related recommendations after the jump and let us know what you're doing this weekend.
Friday (May 16):
Come check out new ways to barbecue and make your own rub at L'Ecole. There will be complimentary samples, too. You can also tour the campus and learn more about the school's culinary programs. From 5 to 8 p.m. Admission is free.
Taste more than 60 wines from fourteen wineries -- the festival is the largest all-Missouri wine event. There will be complimentary cheese and crackers as well as other light bites available for purchase. The juried art fair will take place adjacent to the wine tent and features Midwestern artists. Friday, from 5 to 10 p.m. and Saturday, from noon to 10 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance, available here, and include a souvenir wine glass. Sunday's Sip & Savor event is from noon to 3 p.m. There are only 250 tickets available for Sunday; they're $20 in advance, available here.
Saturday (May 17):
The sixth annual street festival celebrates the ever-growing culinary and art scene in Maplewood. Enjoy live music and sample eats from Acero, Strange Donuts, Boogaloo, Las Palmas, Foundation Grounds, Schlafly, Pie Oh My, Kakao, Water Street and more. From noon to 9 p.m. Admission is free.
Sample six different Ste. Genevieve wineries on this two-day progressive dinner. Wineries include Cave Vineyards, Charleville Winery, Chaumette Winery, Sand Creek Winery, Sainte Genevieve Winery and Twin Oaks Vineyard. Cave's off-dry white will be served with goat cheese, ricotta cheese, lemon, and basil on with fresh baked bread. Charleville's Sweet Lakota Red is paired with blue cheese and apple slaw. Chaumette's 2010 vintage port will be served with a bittersweet chocolate truffle and petite mince-meat pie. Sand Creek's semi-dry traminette is paired with a char-grilled chicken leg with blackberry barbecue glaze. Ste. Genevieve's off-dry Ste. Gemme will be served with beet, cheddar and apple tart appetizers. Twin Oaks' Shady Oak is paired with toasted artisan bread mixed with fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, fresh basil and thyme tossed with a vinegar and oil dressing. Make your way through the trail Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are $27, available here.
Explore two of St. Louis' most interesting neighborhoods while supporting independent local brewers. Sample 50 different beers with your commemorative tasting glass and enjoy live music and other entertainment in both districts. Pick up your glass at either spot and take advantage of the free shuttle running all day. From noon to 5 p.m. Tickets are $20 available here.
Celebrate beer like the Germans do! Sort of. The sixth annual beer festival focuses on German beer (duh), but there will also be over 70 craft beers to try. The sampling is all inclusive from 2 to 5 p.m. and it's by-the-pint from 5 to 10 p.m. There will be live music, an Urban Chestnut German tent and food from PM BBQ. Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door.
Sunday (May 18):
Brand ambassadors are giving cocktail master Ted Kilgore a break and taking over the bar at Planter's House. Enjoy cocktails and "stories" from Hendrick's, Milagro, Sailor Jerry, the Balvenie, Tullamore D.E.W. and more. Food includes arancini, smoked chicken wings and dessert inside and on the patio. From to 6 p.m. Tickets are $45, available here.
Spring for Strays is a fundraiser for Stray Rescue St. Louis. Enjoy drag and burlesque shows, raffles, live and silent auctions, food and drink specials and more. All proceeds benefit Stray Rescue. From 2 to 6 p.m. Admission is $10 at the door.
