Believe it or not, eating honey cayenne chicken wings with creamy basil dip can actually help a local food pantry. Well, at Mangia Italiano (3145 South Grand Boulevard; 314-664-8585) at least. For the second year in a row, Mangia is hosting a silent auction and wine tasting to benefit Isaiah 58, an organization just down the street that operates a food bank and thrift store.

"We took over [Mangia] about three years ago, and we hadn't really paired up with any neighborhood charities or organizations like this," co-owner Collier Evans tells us, "and being that they're just right own the street we thought they were a good fit for us to do this yearly event and help out tthe South Grand neighborhood as much as we can."

From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. for $10, you'll taste red and white wines from around the world and bid on the silent auction. There will be a cash bar, too, but you can enjoy appetizers from Mangia all night. It's National Herbs and Spices Day, too -- who knew? -- which is perfect for some Italian hors d'oeuvres. Snack on bruschetta with goat cheese, tomato gremolata and a balsamic reduction, spinach and cheese toasted ravioli with an assortment of dipping sauces, hummus and pita bread, honey cayenne chicken wings with creamy basil dip, an assortment of pizzas and Mangia Salad with romaine, olives, red onion, tomato and creamy basil dressing.

"We're in the trenches, working one-on-one with our clients every single day. We're excited to bring the community together for a night to raise critical funds to help ensure the continuation of our mission," Isaiah 58 executive director Reverend Brenda Booth said in a statement. "We're thrilled to host the event at Mangia Italiano again this year. Every aspect of the fundraiser is local. It's all about the neighborhood and coming together to support Isaiah 58 Ministries and the work we do."

Tickets are available at the door and all the proceeds go to Isaiah 58 Ministries. You can learn more about the non-profit here.
