The Crafty Chameleon Bar (1384 Clarkson Clayton Center, Ellisville; 636-220-9144) is about to have a new neighbor. Pittsburgh chain Walnut Grill is taking over the rest of the space formerly occupied by Chevy's at Clarkson and Clayton roads in Ellisville.
As first reported by the St. Louis Business Journal, Walnut Grill has four locations in the Pittsburgh area; this will be its first outside of the state. St. Louis is the beginning of a national expansion for the mid-priced family restaurant.
Walnut Grill is slated to open in Ellisville in October, followed by a few more St. Louis locations. The menu includes small plates like ahi tuna, lobster mac & cheese and a hummus and cou cous platter; flatbreads, fresh seafood entrees including crab-stuffed shrimp, Alaskan halibut and sweet chile mahi mahi; chicken and beef dishes, sandwiches, soups and pastas, plus daily drink specials. You can check out the full menu here.
President Kirk Vogel told the Pittsburgh Business Times that the St. Louis market was ideal because of its similarity to Pittsburgh (not sure we agree, but OK). "It's a very interesting market. It's river city like we are in Pittsburgh. The suburbs are remarkable from a demographic standpoint," he said.
Vogel did not respond immediately to requests for comment.
