What is St. Louis' Most Underrated Doughnut?

underdoughnut.jpg
A treat from last month's Tour D'onut. | Jon Gitchoff

Every time we write about doughnuts, we get tons of feedback from readers. We get even more feedback when we do our blind taste test of the breakfast treats (a.k.a. Game of Dones) -- you all have very strong opinions about where we should go next. That's why this week's edition of Overrated/Underrated is a no-brainer: what is St. Louis' most underrated doughnut?

Is it your neighborhood mom-and-pop bakery? Is it Schnucks? We want to know. Leave your nominations in the comments, and we'll take it to a vote next week.

Tony's Donuts they have the best donuts in St Louis, and they are always fresh, and they have a good selection of goodies. Try them you'll get hooked.

Strange Donuts. They're far better than their limited buzz suggests.

I agree. They have become trendy, especially with the addition of Strange Donuts stranger paintings on the weekends. We waited outside in the cold this winter.

I couldn't disagree more. I know one guy who eats them, every day.

I'd actually agree with Eddie's Southtown. The location hampers it a bit, but the donuts are awesome! Always fresh.

Treehouse  on South Grand makes amazing vegan donuts. You never know what you're going to get! Last week I had blueberry lemon curd with maple glaze. Mmm.

I see some love for the Donut Drive-In on Chippewa, which is solid, but I don't see any love for Ray's donuts, on Brentwood.  They have the most amazing chocolate yeast donuts!!!

You owe it to yourself to try John's Donuts in Soulard. Respectfully, if you think Straub's are breathtaking, John's will blow your mind.

I'm a Donut DriveIn fan, but I wouldn't call it underrated. I believe its one of stl's faves. Do people even read what is asked?

I love Old Towne Donuts but that is fairly well known. I think Tony's Donuts has good ones too and no one really knows about them

Vincent Van Doughnut actually makes theirs from scratch and doesn't use bag mix. Unlike the others tested. You should consider testing scratch donuts against the others or your just eating bag mix.

Donut Palace in Ellisville, MO. Best cake donuts, jelly filled, apple fritters or just plain glazed. Wonderful.
