The Best Food Events in St. Louis This Weekend: July 18 to 20

There are several outdoor events this weekend, so you can enjoy this unseasonably pleasant weather. Don't miss Schlafly's annual mussel fest, or check out the latest Handmade Happy Hour downtown. Check out our food-related recommendations after the jump.

Friday (July 18):

Wine Tasting @ Sweetology

Introduce yourself to Sweetology's build-your-own cakes, cupcakes and cookies with a complimentary wine and cupcake tasting. There will also be specials on wine by the glass, a twenty percent discount when you buy wine and built a treat, plus Mike Murphy of Bommarito Wines will be on hand to discuss the vino. From 5 to 7 p.m. Admission is free.

Handmade Happy Hour: Summer in the City @ Thirteenth Street & Washington Avenue

Head downtown for what is essentially a chic block party on Washington Avenue. Check out the more than 40 local artisans peddling their wares. Cocktail samples, DIY activities and live music are all free, but with a VIP ticket, enjoy an open bar at the Knickerbocker and complimentary food from Lucas Park Grille, Rosalita's Cantina and more. From 5 to 10 p.m. Admission is free; VIP tickets are $40 each and benefit the Coolfire Foundation, available here.

Belgian Beer and Mussel Festival @ Schlafly Tap Room

"Fill up on freshly flown in coldwater mussels paired with ales. Belgian waffles and live music sweeten the delicious deal." The full Tap Room menu is also available, with live music both days from 5 to 9 p.m. in the Club Room. Friday, from 5 p.m. to midnight and Saturday, from 11 a.m. to midnight. Admission is free.

Movies St. Louisans Love @ Art Hill

The Saint Louis Art Museum is showing four classic movies in July and August on Art Hill, complete with food trucks and live music before the show. Tonight, it's Funny Face starring Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire. Food trucks include Completely Sauced, Chop Shop STL, Hot Aztec, Lulu's Local Eatery, Vincent Van Doughnut, Seoul Taco, Sia's Italian Ice, Hot Aztec and more. The Brothers Lazaroff will also be playing. Music and food starts at 7 p.m., and the movie starts at 9. Admission is free.

Saturday (July 19):

Food Truck Frenzy @ Fort Zumwalt Park

"Missed Food Truck Friday? Try O'Fallon. Trucks scheduled to be there are Destination Desserts, Yo! Salsa, My Big Fat Greek Truck, Taco Truck STL, Slice of the Hill, Deli on a Roll, Russo's, The Cheese Shack, Wing "Nutz," StLouisanaQ, Rendezvous Café & Wine Bar. Diners are encourage to bring a blanket or chairs to enjoy the park. From 5 to 8 p.m. Admission is free."

Sunday (July 20):

F² (Fashion and Food): Raising Money for Pedal the Cause @ Modesto Tapas

The last F2 event was at Hiro Asian Kitchen in March -- this time food and fashion collide at Modesto Tapas. The restaurant's chef Carlos Hernandez has prepared a four-course meal inspired by designer Abaya Dake. You'll also get two free cocktails and of course, a fashion show. Some of the proceeds will go towards Pedal the Cause. From 6 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $75, available here.

FoodSpark: Creative SoapBox @ Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts

Check out the temporary pavilion in the vacant lot across from the Pulitzer designed by Freecell Architecture. At this potluck event, food and art mix to foster ideas. FoodSpark will be "challenging the community to generate ideas that bring St. Louis social issues to the forefront of creative expression." From 6 to 8 p.m. Admission is free.
