In June A Pizza Story (7278 Manchester Avenue; 314-899-0011) opened in Maplewood serving Neapolitan wood-fired pizzas alongside a full bar. With each pie, former Washington University professors Muhammad Alhawagri and Sherif Nasser aim to serve up crisp, charred crust and a supple interior, topped with fresh ingredients.

The menu also offers a salads, fried calamari with puttanesca dipping sauce, charcuterie and cheese boards, a couple of pasta dishes and gelato made by local chef Francesco Velocci.

Food was good in my experience. But what is it worth? Everything... every menu item is overpriced by at least $2. So, go. Enjoy. You will like it. When the bill for one drink, one salad, one app, and a pizza that feeds one person tops $40 w/ tip (per person), it's just not tenable. I'll go to Niché or Sydney Street for that.

Actually I was just told by my friend that we didn't have to pay for the beer. Good luck on the endeavor though.

I went to "a pizza story" with a friend of mine and there were 4 people and the GM in the place. We ordered a pie and a beer each. 15 mins later the pie came out charred to a crisp and the waiter served it with a smile on his face. He went back to the table he was sitting at and started to play with his cell phone. My friend and I looked at each other and started laughing. We were looking for cameras, as we thought we were being duped. No cameras. I took the pizza and put it on the table in front of the server and asked if he would like to eat it. Gave him $10 for our beer(including tip) and left. NEVER AGAIN! Horrendous experience
