What is St. Louis' Most Underrated Bloody Mary?

The "Mad Mary" at Mad Tomato. | Jennifer Silverberg

Is there such a thing as an overrated bloody mary? We don't think so, but we want to know where we can get a top-notch, vodka-fueled beverage early in the morning. Last year, we named the bloody mary at the Famous Bar (5213 Chippewa; 314-832-2211) the best in town -- it's got bacon-infused vodka and a quail egg as a garnish. Rooster, Cafe Eau and Barrister's are other favorites.

Is there anyone doing something super crazy? What about a bloody mary that proves you can't improve on the traditional recipe? Let us know your nominations in the comments and we'll take it to a vote next week. We may just do a little, ahem, research ourselves.

The Big Muddy Pub in downtown Alton. You would be very hard pressed to find a better Bloody Mary. This is a challenge I expect someone to take.

This weekend only, come get your own beer-flavored Bloody Mary at the Roothog Motorcycle Rally at beautiful Arrowhead Campground in Grassy, MO. Beer-flavored Bloody Marys come from many different breweries, and can be bought as singles or multi-packs in both bottles or cans. Roothog Rally will be a great time this year, featuring 3rd Wheel playing some southern-fried tunes on friday night, and Paragon rocking it out on Saturday night... as well as all the lovely activities you normally associate with one of the most badass parties on the planet!

Gotta give a shout out to Darwin at Squires. He is the man and their Bloody Mary bar is on point.  Great weekend spot.  You don't even need a menu.  You will fill up on the unlimited trips to bacon, cheese, and everything good island.  But taste wise, Broadway Oyster Bar's house mix. Hands down. I will order bloody maries on a Saturday night they are so good.

Christopher Wade Keidel makes makes a killer one at the Big Muddy Pub in downtown Alton, IL. Best day is Sunday there with the Bloody Mary bar. It's got salami chunks (think summer sausage), cheese cubes, pickles, stuffed olives, and a mix that includes a bit of guiness and horseradish. Also, the amount of garnishes to choose from at Sqwires bloody bar in Layfayette Square is ridiculous. They bring out the bar on Saturdays and Sundays.

Another vote for the Big Muddy Pub in Alton - they set up a DIY bar on Sundays so it's always just the way you like it!

You need to try these two places for a really good Bloody Mary. Hooch & Sixteen's in Granite City when Darla is bar-tending because she's got a great secret recipe. Then during Sunday games in the Champions Club at Busch Stadium, they have a Sunday Brunch with a full Bloody Mary bar you must try.
